In the Outdoor Adventure program, we offer a variety of educational skill classes to the UH community. Clinics and Workshops focus on teaching the basic skills and techniques one may need while on outdoor adventures.

Adventure Challenges and Workshops

Location: Climbing Wall
Description: Participants will learn how to fit a harness, tie knots, load a belay device, manage the slack in a climbing system, and properly communicate while climbing. No experience is necessary.
Hydration Awareness Workshop
Dates: September 8-9
Times: 11:00 am - 2:00 pm
Registration Required: at the start of the demo
Cost: Free
Location: Bulter Plaza
Description:
Learn about the importance of staying hydrated & how to recognize signs of dehydration.
Grab a water bottle and find out ways to gather & purify water in different emergency
situations.

Location: Climbing Wall
Description: Participants will learn the proper technique required to lead belay and lead climb. Clipping practice is encouraged before taking the class.
Do you have what it takes to complete the Mile High Climb? Explore new heights and challenge yourself to new climbs at the Campus Recreation and Wellness Center's (CRWC) indoor climbing Wall. Finish the first mile to win a Mile High Climb t-shirt. Supplies are limited, so start early!
The Rec Center staff will provide all the gear and guidance you need–free! Make sure to wear athletic clothing that you can move around in. Visit the Climbing Wall any time during open hours to begin the challenge.
The climber must complete top-outs totaling 5280 feet (1 mile). Must be reported to the wall supervisor the same day they are completed to be logged in the tracking document. Will get a t-shirt upon completion & patches for each additional mile.

Custom Trips
Outdoor Adventure has created custom-designed trips and private programs for many special events. You can request a private workshop for you and your friends to learn more outdoor techniques or your student organization or department can have an Outdoor Adventure plan, organize and even lead your next leadership retreat for your Custom Adventure. Or maybe you and your friends just want to get away from the weekend and want us to take care of the planning for you, either way, if you are interested in learning more, or have any questions, contact: Outdoor Adventure at outdoors@uh.edu.
