New Research Shows Gender Gaps in STEM Beliefs
Assistant Professor Allison Master’s recent paper in the prestigious journal PNAS found that boys and girls generally believe that engineering and computer science are professions for males, while the tide has changed some for math and science.
Art Education Professor Wins National Award
Professor Sheng Kuan Chung earned the Distinguished Scholar Award from the National Art Education Association’s Asian Art and Culture Interest Group. “The recognition strengthens my conviction that art education is not solely about teaching the subject matter,” he said.
Assistant Professor Wins Highest Honor for Early Career STEM Researchers
Allison Master, who research focuses on increasing inclusivity in STEM, received the Presidential Early Career Award for Scientists and Engineers — the U.S. government’s highest honor for emerging researchers in the field. She’s the first from UH to win the award.
Associate Professor Selected for Fulbright Exchange in Romania
Mikel Cole, a professor of bilingual/ESL education, will work with doctoral students at Alexandru Ioan Cuza University to improve their research and media literacy skills. “This feels like such a gift,” he said.
