Academic Advising: Pre-Nursing

The Pre-Nursing Pathway is for first-time-in-college (FTIC) degree seeking students. Students interested in this pathway will apply to UH as a Freshman student. Students will select Pre-Nursing as their major when applying to UH. We advise students to select Exploratory Studies as their second major; we work with Exploratory Studies advisors so they are kept up to date with Gessner College of Nursing policies

Students who are admitted into UH on the Pre-Nursing Pathway are NOT automatically admitted into the Traditional BSN Track. ALL UH students who are interested in graduating with a BSN from UH must complete the Traditional BSN Track Admission Requirements and apply by the deadline.

The admission standards for Pre-Nursing are more rigorous than the general admission criteria for UH.

Students with a major in Pre-Nursing are advised to contact their advisor, Laura Brown, via Navigate for an appointment. Please note that appointments are on a first-come, first-served basis.

During the Fall and Spring semesters, Pre-Nursing students will be emailed about attending a group advising session. Attending a Group Advising Session is the best way to get advised for the upcoming semester(s). All students will be advised to take courses that align with the Pre-Nursing Pathway.

If a UH student has a quick question about Pre-Nursing, they are encouraged to complete a quick question form here. [https://forms.office.com/r/ZxVKt3wn4b] Please allow 72 hours for a response. The University of Houston is closed on weekends and holidays. Individuals must be UH students to access the form.
