At the close of UH Energy’s Energy Transition Winds of Change symposium—co-hosted by the Center for Carbon Management in Energy (CCME)—U.S. Congressman Robert Latta delivered a keynote urging bold action on America’s energy future. Emphasizing the need for scalable energy infrastructure, domestic nuclear fuel sourcing, and streamlined regulation, Latta called for an “all-of-the-above” approach to secure, affordable, and sustainable power. His message: the U.S. must act quickly, think strategically, and listen to innovators driving the transition forward.

The 2025 TIEEP Spring Energy Forum, held on May 8 at the UH Tech Bridge, brought together industry leaders to spotlight practical innovations in industrial energy efficiency. Hosted by the Texas Industrial Energy Efficiency Program in partnership with UH Energy and SECO, the forum featured expert presentations on low-capital energy assessments, high-efficiency steam systems, and cutting-edge digital monitoring tools. From simple operational improvements to AI-powered diagnostics, the event emphasized scalable strategies to reduce costs, cut emissions, and boost performance across the oil refining and chemical sectors.

The University of Houston has been awarded the 2025 TXU Energy Leadership Award in Innovation, recognizing its pioneering contributions to energy research, education, and collaboration. Presented during a special event at Daikin Park, the award highlights UH’s strategic partnership with TXU Energy, which powers all four campuses and supports innovation-driven initiatives. The collaboration includes a $370,000 scholarship commitment for students in energy and STEM fields, reinforcing UH’s role as a leader in shaping a sustainable energy future.
