At the University of Houston, we help Texas industry do more with less — less energy, less water, and less waste. Through the Texas Industrial Energy Efficiency Program (TIEEP) and the Texas Industrial Energy Efficiency Network (TIEEN), we connect plant managers, engineers, and corporate leaders with strategies that cut utility bills, increase productivity, and strengthen bottom lines.

Established by the Texas State Energy Conservation Office (SECO) in 2019, these initiatives drive meaningful change where it counts: in the operational core of industrial facilities. By sharing proven practices and the latest research, we help companies reduce energy intensity, improve process reliability, and enhance competitiveness — all while delivering cost savings that benefit both producers and consumers.

TIEEP provides the education, awareness and assistance that oil refineries and chemical processors need to maintain a leading position in the global energy market. TIEEP hosts between four and eight educational events each year that expose engineers to state-of-the-art developments in energy and water conservation, which can aide in cost cutting and improving operational efficiency. For many oil refineries, up to 30% of the operating costs are related to energy. By connecting operating engineers with energy efficiency experts, TIEEP disseminates solutions that help drive those costs down.

TIEEN provides a similar service to small and medium-sized manufacturing operations, but with a broader scope that supports all aspects of business operations. Some emerging enterprises may lack an economics department or a cadre of engineers specializing in energy efficiency, for example. TIEEN would leverage its position within the energy ecosystem to connect those proprietors with project financing, engineering firms and an array of supplemental resources to solve their energy efficiency challenges and help their businesses grow.
