       LEARNING ABROAD/LEARNING AWAY

The Honors College believes that learning happens both in- and outside of the classroom. In addition to having an adventure, learning abroad/away is an opportunity for our students to acquire global perspectives and competencies that enrich their coursework and develop skills that will prepare them for life after college. Whether you are considering a short-term, faculty-led program or a semester abroad, the Honors College encourages students to take advantage of the many opportunities to explore the world beyond Houston. Previous faculty-led programs have gone to Egypt, the Galapagos, Greece, Israel, Italy, Jordan, and Spain, to name but a few. Students can participate in Honors abroad/away programs or any study abroad program facilitated through UH’s Institute for Global Engagement.

Learning Abroad/Away develops the following skills:

Accessibility is a cornerstone of an Honors College learning abroad/away experience. Our programs are open to all majors, as well as non-Honors students. Additionally, every year the Honors College provides financial support through Learning Abroad Scholarships. Honors students can also receive support through the University of Houston’s International Education Scholarship and external fellowships.

It is never too early to think about how learning abroad/away can fit into your degree program. Speak with an Honors College advisor or Dean Rayder in the Office of Undergraduate Research and Major Awards at btrayder@central.uh.edu to discuss your options and funding opportunities.
