History
The University of Houston's Katy Campus was born from a vision shared by local leaders and lawmakers who recognized the need for high-quality higher education in the growing Katy region. Starting in 2008, community input guided plans to expand access to programs in energy and healthcare. With strong support from state legislators, UH secured funding in 2015 to purchase land at the intersection of Grand Parkway and I-10. That same year, the University formed a task force to plan academic offerings tailored to the region's needs.
By 2016, UH partnered with Houston Community College to launch the UH/HCC Engineering Academy, laying the groundwork for a more permanent presence. Construction on the Katy Academic Building began in 2018, and by fall 2019, classes were in full swing. today, UH's Katy campu offers a range of programs — including engineering, nursing, business, education and more — in a modern, state-of-the-art facility. It's a hub for students who want top-tier education close to home.
